MARISA

Founder & Lead Trainer

Marisa, Lead Trainer of CanineKind was born and raised in the Boston area. Although she grew up with small family dogs, her real training journey began 6 years ago. After securing a job and apartment in the city of Rochester NY - she knew it was time to fulfill her lifelong dream of adopting a large breed dog to do all the things with!

When she brought home Atlas, a German Shepherd/St. Bernard mix puppy who quickly shot to 100lbs under a year, it was no easy feat to raise him in a city apartment with no backyard and working a full time 9-5. She was committed to learning everything she could to provide Atlas his best life - taking every single training class and seminar, molding Atlas into the ideal companion, service dog and even an energetic dog sport competitor. She transcended old school methods and learned to harness the power of play and natural engagement - quickly falling in love with competitive, motivation based training.

At 6 years old Atlas has achieved performance/companion titles of the IGP BH and American Schutzhund AS-BT, passing all temperament testing with flying colors along with his AKC CGC-A, CGC-U and AKC Novice and Intermediate Trick Titles. Atlas is also a task-trained service dog, showcasing his extremely solid temperament and clear alerting skills at busy office jobs throughout the years.

When she is not training pet dogs, Marisa is pursuing the high level dog sport of "IGP". In this sport - the dog completes three phases: scent tracking, obedience and protection. Kismet and Marisa recently achieved their introductory "BH" title in IGP and plan to pursue the next level in Spring of 2026!

Kismet and Marisa have thrived in this high level atmosphere building strong precise obedience through a powerful understanding of motivation and engagement along with powerful protection work that has professional level control, building much of the foundations and mechanics of Kismet's skills at home.
